London Mayor Sadiq Khan has unveiled plans to expand the city's electric vehicle (EV) charging network to maintain its status as a leading zero-emission city. The initiative involves public and private sectors working together to transform EV charging infrastructure.

The expansion follows the establishment of the world's first Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Taskforce, which has received contributions from over 140 organisations.

London currently has over 20,000 EVs, 1,700 electric taxis, and Europe's largest electric bus fleet. The plan estimates that the number of EVs could increase to over 330,000 by 2025, supported by new low-emission regulations, policy support, and decreasing costs of EVs.

“We need to reject the fossil fuels of the past and embrace an electric revolution in London’s transport. To truly transform the quality of our air and to tackle the climate crisis London must move away from petrol and diesel cars, with their catastrophic impact on the environment, and towards zero- emission vehicles.”
